What Your PC Tracks PC Pitstop Privacy ScanOur privacy scanner shows you some of the information that your PC remembers--web sites you've visited, cookies that may store personal information, and files you have recently viewed or edited. If others use this computer it is relatively easy for them to discover this information, whether by accident or intentional spying. You can easily protect yourself from casual snoopers by clearing out this information on a regular basis, or disabling the browser features that remember it. Just click the Scan Now button to get started. The information shown here does not leave your PC; it is not being sent to PC Pitstop. See below for more information on how the scan works. Please wait, loading... About the InformationThe data collected above is from your PC's browser history, cookies list, and recently used documents. The data is only displayed to you on the screen, it is not sent over the Internet. See our page about what your PC tracks if you want more information about where this data comes from on your computer. If you would like to remove any of the information you see above, see our instructions for cleaning up your PC. The scan compares the information it finds to a "blacklist" of domains that users may find undesirable to have on their PC. Presence of a blacklisted domain is not necessarily a sign of a spyware infection, security problem, or major privacy issue. A site may be on the blacklist for a variety of reasons, and it is often normal to have some blacklisted sites or cookies on even a "clean" computer. The most innocent reason may be that the domain hosts third-party tracking cookies that could potentially cause privacy issues, but usually aren't a problem. Perhaps the domain name indicates pornography or other questionable activities that could embarrass someone, particularly at work. Finally, the site may be a known purveyor of spyware or illegal content. PC Pitstop has not tried to categorize the reasons why a site is blacklisted; we provide the information here as a way to raise awareness for your own investigation or cleanup. UninstallTo remove the Privacy Scan ActiveX control, click Tools, Internet Options, Settings, View Objects from the Internet Explorer menu. Locate the "PC Pitstop Tracks Checker" on the list, right-click it, and select "Remove". If you try to uninstall while viewing this page, the ActiveX control file will be in use and will not be removable without restarting Windows. Instead, close all instances of Internet Explorer and then use the procedure above, without loading this page. |
