BIOS

The BIOS (for Basic Input/Output System) is software that's hardwired onto a PC. It controls system basics such as display, keyboard, disk drives, and more.

Microsoft says some BIOSs--particularly those created before January 1, 2000--may not be able to take full advantage of Windows XP's hibernation and power management features.

Fix-It Tips

In some cases, a BIOS update will provide support for Windows XP. Check with your system vendor to see if a BIOS update is available.
